Sublime wooden Jambuphati from the Ava Kingdom, 17th - 18th century, Burma.
67 cm x 25 cm x 18 cm
The earliest images of the crowned Buddha Jambuphati are known to have originated in Pyu, where the Indian influence of Buddhist arts and non-Theravada Buddhism was extremely felt at that time.
The legend of Jambuphati is that he was a warlord who submitted to the Dharma after realizing the greatness of the Buddha. He later decided to become a Buddhist monk.
Taking the earth as a witness on his throne representing Mount Meru, this sculpture is of great finesse despite its fragmentary state on some parts.
Serene face and very well realized.
Quality work.
Fair condition, some cracks and missing parts
