Sublime Buddha from the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th century, Amarapura.
Sculpture was restored, later, in the Mandalay style.
114 cm x 40 cm x 21 cm
132 with base
Of a very beautiful finesse, this mixture of styles is at the base of the Amarapura iconography, the style which will give birth to the Mandalay.
Amarapura was the capital of Burma twice, during the Konbaung period (1783-1821 and 1842-1859) before being finally supplanted by Mandalay.
Very long and thin body, more masculine face, wavy details all over the drape on the Buddha's robe, arched position (bent), all details conducive to the Amarapura style.
This Buddha once contained a relic (see back). Glassware and modification added during the Mandalay period. Addition of dry lacquer on several parts of the sculpture.
Very decorative and splendid piece.
