Exceptional bronze from the Kingdom of Lan Na, Northern Thailand.
Work from the 16th / early 17th century.
A buffer state between the kingdom of Ayutthaya and Burma, this kingdom was often the victim of one or the other. In the 15th century, it reached its apogee.
This sculpture represents Buddha taking the earth as a witness on his throne divided into 2 motifs (lotus shape and pierced circular motifs).
Of folk art looking like, this masterpiece comes from the region around the Mekong.

Smiling and serene, the details are very well executed.
