Sublime wooden Buddha from the beginning of the 18th century, Kingdom of Vientiane, Southern Laos.
This 79cm high sculpture with base comes from the very beginning of the 18th century, when the Kingdom of Lan Xang was divided into 3 parts (Luang Prabang, Champasak and Vientiane).
Magnificent and very particular face. Nice details of the chiseled and stretched eyes, bats looking ears, long hooked and pointed nose, full lips, typically in the style of southern Laos with a little Thai influence.
Very old restoration on the chest.
Wood, lacquer and gold. Very rare.
Fair condition overall with some losses.
